Adele was introduced to the benefits of yoga in 1996, and she became certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga in 2001. Later that same year, Adele broke her back in a severe horseback riding accident but, thanks to her practice of yoga, she was not confined to a wheelchair. During a lengthy recovery and rehabilitation process, Adele gained insight into herself, the practice of yoga and, in particular, about starting yoga from the beginning – a second time around. As an instructor, her goal is to encourage balance, awareness, self-practice and self-responsibility.
Adele is part of the group of founding members, instructors and board members that was responsible for establishing YARD back in 2002. Over the years, Adele has been inspired by great yoga teachers such as David Swenson, Doug Swenson, Nancy Gilgoff, Rameen Peyrow, Troy Lucero, Thomas Ashley Ferrand (Namadeva), Maya Margo Balog, Susi Aldous, all the great YARD instructors and particularly the ever effervescent Ann Waschuck. Being surrounded by wonderful students at teachers at YARD, Adele is constantly motivated to develop her yoga practice and teachings not only physically, but engages in yogic practices that promote mental and emotional clarity.
Adele works full time as a senior research technician for Agriculture Canada by day but is a yoga teacher at night! Adele is available to teach customized yoga classes or workshops to groups or individuals and specializes in introducing beginners to the dynamic practice of Ashtanga/Power Yoga using an eclectic but practical mix of awareness activities.

Ann has been studying and practicing the many aspects of yoga including hatha since her childhood back in the 60s. In the mid-1970s, she started focusing on mantra and meditation. During the mid-80s, she continued her practice of hatha while taking a minor in dance at the University of Calgary. In the early 90s, she started taking classes with Grace Little (the Grandmother of Yoga in Central Alberta), who led her into the (Yoga Association of Alberta) YAA teacher-training program with senior teacher Maya Margot Balog who expertly taught her the yoga path of self-study. Since 1994, Ann has had the joy and honour of sharing yoga with students, drawing most of her inspiration from the teachings of Iyengar, Himalayan and Desichakar traditions.
Since YARD’s inception, Ann has been an instructor and board member. She is YAA Certified, has served on the YAA board of directors from 1995, acts as YAA’s Senior Instructor for the teacher training program (TTP) and since 2011 has sat on the YAA’s TTP committee. She has also served as a mentor for the Himalayan Institute’s teacher training program for several years. In 2017, after 10 years of studying, Ann received her certification in Sanskrit Mantra through Sanatana Dharma Satsang under Namadeva Acharya and Satyabhama.
Ann is ever thankful for blessings of the many great teachers in her life, including her students, her peers and her mother, Dr. Jytte Roy-Poulsen, who brainwashed her with crazy esoteric principles such as “wholistic perspective” and the delight in the quest of “search for self.”
Anomi was raised by meditators practicing Surat Shabd Yoga (yoga of light and sound) on the Sant Mat spiritual path. Her parents integrated her into a yogic lifestyle since birth (vegetarian, meditating, yogic philosophy). Although she has had a life-long spiritual yoga practice, Anomi began her physical asana practice over 10 years ago, after being in two serious car accidents, which left her coping with severe spinal injury as well as lasting mental /emotional consequences and PTSD. After trying many therapies, she found yoga to be the most impactful and empowering. Practicing yoga was something she could do for herself that effectively brought physical, emotional and mental healing. Anomi gained a new sense of freedom and empowerment from yoga, as she could heal herself rather than feel like a “victim” constantly going to others seeking help.
Since falling in love with yoga, Anomi has practiced various styles, including hatha, kundalini, ashtanga and yin, and she values the benefits they all offer. She decided that becoming a yoga teacher could allow her to share these benefits with others. Anomi completed David Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training, as well as Yandara Yoga Institute’s 200 hour Hatha Yoga Instructor training. Anomi is also a Psychology instructor and believes that teaching is her purpose. She is particularly passionate about the field of Positive Psychology, which is the science of flourishing and optimal functioning. Anomi believes that yoga promotes optimal mental, emotional and physical well-being through components of practice such as mindfulness, physical exercise, gratitude, relaxation and loving-kindness. Her hope is to empower others the way yoga and psychology have empowered her with the tools necessary to live a happier and healthier life!

Connie was introduced to yoga in 1995 by Grace Little and was immediately intrigued to learn more! As a certified exercise specialist, Connie found the teachings of yoga to be very complementary to the world of exercise and fitness, truly encompassing the whole body/mind/spirit experience.
She was further inspired to pursue in-depth training to become a yoga instructor. Learning from her teachers Maya Margo Balog, Ann Waschuk and Paula Carnegie Fehr, she completed her certification as a yoga instructor with the Yoga Association of Alberta (YAA) in 2010. Other senior and international teachers who have influenced (and inspired!) her style of teaching include Rosemary Antze, Erich Schiffmann and, most recentlyj Judith Hanson Lasater. They in turn have shared their knowledge about the teachings of TKV Desikachar and BKS Iyengar – yoga Masters of our time!
Connie’s gentle style of teaching emphasizes finding ways to move the body without creating tension or strain. She guides her students in a gentle, flowing practice incorporating hatha yoga with aspects of both vinyasa and viniyoga styles as she strives to help her students find comfort and ease within their bodies. She currently teaches classes to students with a variety of ages and abilities at YARD, Red Deer College, Collicutt Centre, the Golden Circle and various workplace groups.
Deb MacGregor, YAA
A yoga practitioner of 25 years, Deb brings her love of yoga to her teaching. YARD became her yoga home, then her school, mentoring under Paula Carnegie Fehr and Ann Waschuck. After 5 years of study she certified with the YAA (Yoga Association of Alberta) in 2012. Many workshops & trainings were taken - one of her very first being a week-long, partially silent (yikes!) retreat with Richard Miller studying yoga nidra (it was all good:). A few other mentions are: Being guided by Rosemary Antzein Desikachar flow style so skilfully and Erich Schiffmann brought the art of stillness, Maya Margo a deep wisdom while Judith Hanson-Laster offered the courage to dig deep.
As a result, Deb teaches in a calm meditative way with attention to connecting breath body mind…awareness of how it feels in Your body. And from this awareness she helps you find the flow, leaving you feeling revitalized and relaxed at the same time! Currently Deb teaches at Collicutt, YARD, Golden Circle and other groups. She feels fortunate to have found her yoga home and encourages others to take the opportunity to go to YARD and Give Peace a Chance!

Delaney fell in love with yoga while taking her Social Work at Red Deer College. Taking the time to connect with herself on a deeper level and learning how to listen to her body and her inner voice – without all the noise – were some of the powerful impacts of yoga. Delaney’s passion to expand her yoga practice took her to Thailand forfour months where she studied with Pyramid Yoga Center and became an Internationally Certified Chakra Yoga Instructor. She considers this move the absolute best decision she could have made: removing herself from the chaos of regular life, with no cell phones or other distractions. She shared time with 23 other students on an island on the side of a mountain, practicing yoga under a giant pyramid, chanting in an most amazing sounding dome. It was an unbelievably remarkable journey.
Since then, Delaney has been teaching Chakra Yoga, Prenatal Yoga & Couples Yoga in and around Red Deer. She currently teaches Chakra and Yin Yoga classes at YARD and Body Basics Gym, and she also teaches Prenatal Yoga for The City of Red Deer.
Yoga pleasantly opened the door to the many dimensions of holistic healing for Delaney. She has been a passionate and successful massage therapist since 2002, she obtained her Reiki Masters in 2010 and works with Living Nutrition as a health consultant. She is grateful to be a yoga practitioner/instructor, presented with the opportunity to share tools with lovely individuals who can grow through their practice, gently unfolding the petals of their chakras and beginning to take responsibility for their own true well-being.

Dena is a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga teacher and has been honoured to share kundalini yoga with other yoga seekers since 1998. When she moved to Red Deer in 2003, she was the first teacher in the city to offer Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan). She is happy to say that, since then, several of her students have gone on to take Teachers Training.
Dena’s first exposure to yoga was though a hatha yoga book she was given at age 16. When she was in her early 20s and living in northern British Columbia, yoga classes were hard to find, and Dena’s teachers were mainly audio-visual materials that she had. Savasana (relaxation) pose proved to be one of the more challenging poses for Dena, because it taught openness and vulnerability. It was this, trusting in one one’s own support, that gave Dena the courage to leave an abusive marriage.
At age 25, Dena then discovered kundalini yoga through a “Sounds True” catalogue that carried yoga and meditations videos. A year later, she met her teacher, John Ricker, who encouraged her to take teacher’s training.
Dena has also received certification in hatha yoga and yoga nidra. Dena has taught private sessions, worked in community recreation centres, gyms, conferences, Red Deer College and volunteered with yoga Outreach programs (link to Outreach page) to Mental Health and Remand Centre.

Jessica Dinan, YTT-200
Jessica began her journey with yoga when she was 18 years old after suffering emotional trauma. She took the leap to become certified to teach Sivananda Yoga in the Spring of 2010 while living in Asia, and she has continued to grow with Yoga ever since, learning about different styles and incoporating what she has learned into her Life, both on and off the mat. The greatest gift Yoga has offered her is the ability to be Present in the Moment, as she has always been a bit of a "busy-body".
Since completing her YTT in Cu Chi, Vietnam with the Sivananda School of Yoga, Jessica has been gifted opportunities to teach in a variety of destinations such as Thailand, Bali and Newfoundland! She has taught various styles as well including, Hatha Yoga, Yin, Yin/Yang, Restorative, Adaptive and Kids Yoga. What Jessica enjoys most of all about teaching is introducing new people to yoga in a safe and supportive atmosphere and sharing the journey of Yoga with others.

Kyla began practicing yoga in 1994 as a means to recover from a car accident, and she began her career teaching yoga at YARD in 2002, while also working as a Professional Engineer. Kyla has been exposed to many styles of yoga and is trained to teach ashtanga and yin.
In 2004, she was introduced to the methods of Yoga Therapist Susi Hately of Functional Synergy Inc. Susi’s approach and keen understanding of bio-mechanical principles weaved together Kyla’s engineering brain and love for yoga! In 2012, Kyla resigned her position as an engineer to complete her certification with Susi and to open a Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery Franchise.
Kyla is now a Certified Yoga Therapist with Functional Synergy Inc. and primarily works one-on-one with clients out of her home studio as well as out of a the Optimum Performance Centre. Kyla has success helping people find relief from chronic pain and manage chronic illness, and she is trained in Susi’s CalmSteadyStrong™ for those undergoing cancer treatment. She is also trained in Rhythmic Movement Therapy, which is an effective treatment for learning focus and behavioural challenges in children and for coping with stress, phobias and anxiety in adults.
Kyla loves to laugh, often at herself, and maintains a lighthearted approach with her clients and students. She is a knowledgeable and compassionate teacher and healer that uses her tools of movement, stillness and breath to heal.
Having been a homemaker for several years while raising three children, Maxine didn’t have much time to spend in the exercise world – except for skating, dancing and skiing. As a teenager, figure skating took most of her time, living in a small community where the ice could leave at any time. Maxine was married to her husband, Gene, in 1964 and has resided in Red Deer ever since. Her family did a great deal of camping and dirt biking, and then spent 15 years touring on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. In the 1990s, Maxine practiced Tai Chi for eight years. Then, in 1998, while she was surviving colon cancer, she turned to yoga with Ann Waschuk. The rest of Maxine’s yoga story centres around training, attending workshops, loving yoga and witnessing the improvement in her students and, also, in herself. While she benefits from the movement and the breathing, she has also gained confidence in her teaching skills.
Maxine feels very fortunate to be involved with all of the excellent instructors at YARD, and she enjoys the ongoing training provided through workshops held at the studio, with Ann Waschuk and Paula Carnegie Fehr carrying on with the philosophies of Mayo Margo Balog. Maxine has been teaching for 12 years and presently teaches at YARD, the Golden Circle and G.H. Dawe Community Centre.

Paula began her yoga studies in 1995 and was encouraged to join the Yoga Association of Alberta Teacher Training program in the fall of 1997. From the beginning, her students came to her looking for ways to heal from challenging conditions ranging from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, to recovery from stroke and cancer, to living with diseases like MS. This led Paula on a search for deeper understanding of the healing journey from many different angles. Paula has completed several teacher training courses and workshops specializing in restorative yoga and special needs. In 2017, Paula was given certification as Certified Yoga Therapist. As well, Paula received certification as a Registered Massage Therapist, Certified Aromatherapist, and has been studying Ayurveda for several years with teachers including Dr. Vasant Lad and Dr. David Frawley. She has recently been invited to be part of the Central Alberta Pain & Rehabilitation Institute (Capri) program in Lacombe as the yoga therapist team member.
Paula enjoys sharing the philosophy and deeper practices of yoga in all of her classes and feels honoured to serve as a Senior yoga teacher trainer in Alberta. Whether in her weekly classes or during private tutoring, she drawsfrom the teachings of many respected teachers including Grace Little, Maya Margo Balog, Namadeva Acharya and Satyabhama, Richard Miller and a long list of many other wonderful guides. She continues to seek out deeper teachings and feels blessed to help others find the answers they are looking for.
YA ERYT-500, YAA-500, IAYT-500 Yoga Therapist
Suzanne has been a full-time yoga and fitness instructor since 2007 and is now a certified yoga therapist with the IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists). She also has a background as a martial artist (3rd degree black belt in karate & jujitsu 20+years), outdoor sports enthusiast, former professional athlete (mountain-biking) and certified coach (cycling & skiing).
She has coached sports and taught movement-based classes since the early 90s and has been practicing yoga since early 2000s. She instructs in the Kinesiology program at Red Deer College and holds a B.Ed Degree, NCCP Coaching and AFLCA Fitness Leadership certifications.
Suzanne trains & certifies yoga teachers for the YA (Yoga Alliance) and teaches fitness leaders for the AFLCA. In regular weekly classes, she works with athletes, college and high school students, children, youth, seniors, and adults. She also takes private clients as a yoga therapist & trainer and develops/teaches specialized classes for specific groups such as Brain Injuries, Elite Athletes (e.g. Golf), and people in Cancer-Treatment.
Recently (Sept 2015), Suzanne trained in the martial-arts inspired Budokon Yoga Primary Series with Cameron Shayne in Miami Beach, Florida and has since completed her BYT – Budokon Yoga Teacher requirements.
Suzanne is amongst the 1st people in the world to be certified (Aug 2016) as as a Yoga Therapist with the IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists) This was achieved from taking 2 years of training to receive her Advanced 500-hr Yoga Therapist certificate with Ajna Yoga in Victoria, BC (an IAYT Yoga Therapy School.) This training included a 500-hr TT Intensive plus further specialized training in Yin (35 hrs), Yoga Nidra (20 hrs), Trauma & Mental Health (20 hrs each), Tensegrity & Fascia (20 hrs), Yoga & The Brain Level I & II (40 hrs), and Ayurveda Level I & II (40 hrs). In July of 2014, Suzanne also attended 20+ hours therapeutic yoga training with Judith Lasater (Yoga for Anger, Anxiety & Depression).
Suzanne has been inspired by many amazing international teachers, including Doug Swenson (YA 500 hr, Sadhana Yoga Chi), David Swenson (40 hr Ashtanga), Maya Margo Balog (Himalayan), Susi Hately-Aldous (Functional Synergy: Yogathrive, therapeutic & anatomy), and, of course, her local YARD YAA hatha teachers, Paula Carnegie Fehr and Ann Waschuk and original kundalini instructor, Dena Fairell.
Trish originally came to yoga to improve her flexibility that had been diminished by other activities, such as running and basketball. Her first teachers in Red Deer were Jim Moreau and a very young Rameen Peyroux. Trish has been teaching ashtanga-based yoga since 2002 and, in 2006, she completed David Swenson’s teacher training in Toronto. In 2009, she went to Mysore, India, to study with the “back-bending” guru, Venkatesh.
Trish was a founding member of YARD and acted as President for 11 years. In her years of teaching, she has developed a greater appreciation for the differences in bodies and taking multiple approaches to particular asanas, recognizing the need for each yoga practitioner to find what works for him or her. She continues to use ashtanga yoga as a template but is much less devoted to meticulous adherence to the rigorous discipline associated with its practice. Trish likes to think that her current yoga teacher persona is a much kinder, gentler version than when she first began; although she admits that her students might disagree after an eternal leg-strengthening sequence! She is grateful for the wonderful community that has grown around YARD and hopes to remain a part of it for many years to come.

In 1998, Wanda took her first yoga class with Ann Waschuk – above a dry-cleaning store. Not falling in love with yoga right away, as her back hurt and she thought Shavasana was a huge waste of time, Ann’s exuberance and love for yoga won Wanda over, and she began her own yoga journey.
In 2008, Wanda started to explore yoga further by attending numerous Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers workshops in the yin style. She became certified with the Yoga Association of Alberta in January of 2011. Wanda has a particular passion for Mantra and was blessed to spend time as a student of Namadeva. Always yearning to learn more about yoga, Wanda has recently completed Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra as well as Trauma Sensitive yoga training. She has also participated in numerous other workshops in ashtanga, kundalini svaroopa and restorative yoga in Canada and the United States. She has also completed training in Yoga for Anxiety and Depression with Amy Weintraub
Yoga is not like Vegas: what happens on the mat doesn’t have to stay on the mat. Wanda encourages her students to incorporate what they do at yoga into their everyday lives, to bring balance and contentment. Wanda has a passion for yoga and people and enjoys when she can connect with her students and assist them to have a positive yoga experience. Yoga and all its avenues has been a blessing in her life to calm and centre her through challenges and to allow her to be fully present and experience all the joys life has to offer, including Wanda’s biggest joy: her family.
HELEN MORGAN YAA
Helen first turned to yoga over 20 years ago, looking to relieve the stress of her job as a trial lawyer in London, England. She began by following a yoga video at home, and then attended some classes. However, she and her friend soon got expelled from class for laughing and so her home practiced continued!
Whilst traveling in Africa in 2002, she met a Canadian, and a few months later moved to an acreage West of Red Deer. Not knowing a soul, she decided to give yoga classes another try, and instantly fell in love with the warm and friendly atmosphere at the YARD, where laughter was encouraged, not punished. Attending classes with the wonderful teachers at the YARD, developing her home practice, and extrapolating that practice beyond the mat, helped her stay sane through the (ongoing) joys and terrors of raising 3 daughters. In 2010 Helen began her YAA teacher training. That journey included many inspiring and joy filled hours with her amazing teachers, Ann and Paula, as well as workshops withDoug Swenson, Yogi Amandeep Singh and Marion “Muggs” McConnell. To her complete surprise, she has gradually evolved from being an utter skepticabout the “flakier” aspects of yoga to being a true believer in its amazing holistic qualities.
As well as her involvement with the YARD, Helen teaches several classes in the rural communities of Spruce View and Caroline, where she is also involved in introducing yoga to local school students, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. She feels so lucky to be able to share her love of yoga with her students and her family - and is always especially thrilled when she hears that a student has incorporated some aspect of their practice into their day to day lives. Helen teaches a Desikachar style flowing practice.
SANDRA DECLERCK YAA - TTP
Sandra took her first yoga class with Ann Waschuck in 1997. Although she didn’t continue at that time, the yoga seed was planted. In 2003 while working with high risk teenagers at RDPSD, a Psychologist, Margret Martens talked her into trying YARD. That’s when the yoga seed sprouted. Very soon she became aware of the health benefits. Sandra had suffered with an arthritic disease of the back which caused her to leave nursing of 10 years. However, thanks to YARD and her yoga practice, her body healed. She was able to do all the activities she loves like gardening, hiking and camping.
Along with the physical benefits Sandra noticed peacefulness and clarity. Life became much easier. Realizing all the healing benefits, she enrolled in TTP in 2013. Working on body awareness and breath control took her to a deeper level, finding her true self.
She is very grateful for her teachers Ann Waschuck and Paula Carnegie Fehr (YAA), and has been inspired by: Rosemary Antze, Judith Hanson Lasater (Yoga for Anxiety, Anger and Depression), David Wilson (Voice and Breath),and Neil Pearson ( Pain Care Yoga).
Sandra has always enjoyed helping people - it’s in her nature. She believes in individuality and being your authentic self, even in your yoga practice. She teaches a flow style practice with breath work and modifications for all levels.
Presently Sandra teaches at the Golden Circle, YARD, and shares her passion with family and friends.
TARA MORRISON KRI
Tara’s fascination for the yogic phenomenon of Kundalini was born in her early twenties when she read the classic ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ by Paramahansa Yogananda. She read voraciously on the topic for many years, coming to yoga initially from a more philosophical/intellectual standpoint. She was delighted to discover Kundalini Yoga being taught locally in 2008, and has been practicing with the lovely Dena Fairell ever since. She fell in love with the practice, and it sparked a love of chanting and mantra. She took online training and travelled with Russill Paul (spiritual teacher/musician) to South India in 2012 for a month long chanting pilgrimage/meditation retreat. This was a truly life-altering experience where she learned the depth and power of the Sanskrit language as well as the Mystical/Tantric side of Yoga.
Tara is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse by vocation and is honored to share some of what she has learned with those struggling with mental health issues. With further experience, she would like to integrate more yogic teachings into her work.
Tara finally answered the call and completed KYTT at Studio Sat Nam in Calgary in May of 2016 and is grateful to be able to share these teachings at YARD, where she has found such a strong sense of community, inspiration and support :)
